In Revit: NimDeck tab → Library

The Library window open over a Revit project, showing family cards

What it does

Everything you reuse, in one place

Families, drafting views, view templates, wall types, filled regions, line styles and view filters sit together as preview cards. Keep your own library, or point it at a shared folder for the whole office.

Library cards for families, each with a preview

Find it by what it is

Search by name, family, category, tag or a type value such as a wall’s fire rating or Rw. Every word you type has to match, and #tag finds one tag exactly.

Drag it into the view

Double-click a card, press Enter, or drag it onto a Revit view. A view template goes onto the views selected in the Project Browser, and a wall type switches the walls you have selected.

One team library, kept in step

Whoever can write to the shared folder can edit it; everyone else sees it read-only. Saves merge with what colleagues changed meanwhile, and an open window updates when someone else saves.

Good to know

  • When the project already has something of the same name, you choose: keep the project’s, replace it with the library’s, or load it as “Name (2)”.
  • Items saved in an older Revit can be used in a newer one. It upgrades them once and keeps the copy; items from a newer Revit show greyed out.
  • Save a family once and create several sized types as you insert it, for example 900, 1200 and 1600 wide.
  • Add ▾ saves what you have selected, or indexes a folder of .rfa files without copying them.
