Make Symbol
Select Detail Lines and Filled Regions, and Make Symbol turns them into one 2D family: it saves the family, loads it, places one instance where the linework was and deletes the originals. Follow the notes, or just play.

How it works
- Select first and click Make Symbol, or click it with nothing selected and pick in the view, then Finish. Only Detail Lines and Filled Regions (also masking regions) owned by the active view and not in a group count; anything else stops the command with a message.
- Detail Item keeps the geometry at real size, so the symbol scales with the view like the linework did. Symbol (Generic Annotation) shrinks it by the view scale to paper size, so it prints the same size at every scale. The choice is remembered for next time.
- The family is built from Revit's Metric Detail Item or Metric Generic Annotation template, without the template's instruction text, and saved as
%APPDATA%\StudioTools\Symbols\<name>.rfa. A name already used by a loaded family or an existing file there is refused. - Line styles come along as Lines subcategories of the same name, with their colour, weight and pattern; system styles such as <Hidden> use the family's own. Each filled region type is copied as "Make Symbol - <type>". Model fill patterns are refused.
- The instance is placed at the centre of the selection's extents, so the symbol sits exactly where the linework was, and it stays selected. The family origin is that same centre, so Space turns the symbol 90° in place. If anything fails, the originals are kept and the loaded family and file are removed again.
