CAD Layers
Turn the layers of one CAD import or link on and off, and give them colours, line weights and patterns. Run 1 works in a plain view; run 2 in a view controlled by a View Template. Follow the notes, or just play.
These tutorials are made for a computer screen. On a phone you can look; to try them, open this page on a laptop or desktop.

How it works
- Run CAD Layers with one CAD import or link selected (ribbon or right-click › CAD Layers), or with nothing selected and pick one in the view.
- Left: layers hidden in this view. Right: visible layers with their line pattern, colour, weight and fade overrides. Move layers with the arrows or a double-click; picking a parent (Xref) layer moves its children with it.
- Select many layers with one drag: press on a row and drag over the others (the list scrolls at its edges). Ctrl+drag adds the rows you pass, or removes them if you started on a selected row; Shift+click selects a range.
- Selecting a hidden layer shows it in the view at once, so you can find it. The drop-down previews only the selected visible layers (Show Selected) or hides them (Hide Selected). Turn off Preview Visible Layers to see only the hidden layers you select.
- Click a selected row's Line Pattern, Color, Weight or Fade cell to change it; right-click for Clear Override. Only leaf layers take graphics. Fade lightens the line colour toward white.
- Previews and graphics are written to the view while the window is open (each one is a Revit Undo entry). Apply keeps the layer visibility and Halftone; Cancel, Esc or × puts everything back.
- View with a View Template that controls Imported Categories: CAD Layers works in Temporary View Properties and Apply writes to the template after listing every view it changes. If the template does not control Imported Categories, the view itself is changed.
